Major Product Design Project: Specifications Boards
This post will contain my process of making the specifications boards for my product design project 'Fruity Mood' for this term. I will be making the boards in Photoshop, to keep the consistency the boards will look similar to the concept board that I have made before.
I opened Photoshop and clicked on 'File' and 'New' where I chose an A3 canvas with 300 pixel resolution in landscape. I added my project title by simply copying it from my concept board using 'Edit' and 'Copy' while the text layer was selected and pasting it onto my new canvas using 'Edit' and 'Paste', which automatically creates a new layer.
I then used the same process for the logo and subtitle. I did it like this so I did not have to lose image quality or time by trying to resize all the different components and this way the consistency of the boards are more accurate. I will be saving this as a PSD file now to keep as an editable template for my next boards.
I opened my sketch file by using the 'File' and 'Open' process. I used the 'Object Selection' tool to select the subject and copying and pasting it onto my canvas. I did the same with the underside view.
I then thought about how I wanted to present the specifications, I am going to be trying out two of my ideas. The first is using zoom-ins from specific parts of the lamp and stating the specifications next to the zoomed in parts. I did this by selecting a part of the lamp using the 'Rectangular Marquee' tool and creating a new layer by clicking the plus icon in the layer menu on the bottom right. I then clicked on 'Edit' with my new layer selected and chose 'Stroke'. This opens a dialog box where I changed the width under 'Stroke' to 5 pixels and the colour to black. This created the stroke on a separate layer, so I can move it around without disrupting the lamp sketch. With the same selection still present, I clicked on the layer where the lamp sketch was on and copy and pasted the selection using the same process as mentioned before. I then dragged the pasted part of the sketch towards the side using the 'Move' tool and aligned it with the other zoom-ins. I also created a 6 pixel width border around them using the 'Edit' and 'Stroke' process.
For my second idea I simply put a text box on my canvas using the 'Text' tool, for the titles I selected the title and changed the size to 30pt using the menu at the top and for the subtext I selected the text and changed the size to 24pt.
For the second design board I used the first idea for presentation, because I think it looks more visually interesting. I can always change it to the second idea, since it is easy to make and not as time consuming as the first idea, you can tell by the difference in the amount of layers I have used for the separate components.
I have changed the dimensions of the lamps as they did not make sense to me after reviewing them.
