Design Boards Creation: Quiet on the Forest Floor

In this post I will be explaining the process of making my design boards for the project for this term. I will be creating them in Photoshop 2024. Because it saved me a lot of time last term, I will be making a template for myself first.

I opened a new file by clicking 'File' in the top left menu and choosing 'New'. I then went to 'Print' and chose 'A3', in the menu on the right I chose to have a portrait orientation as my works are made in the same orientation. I left all the other settings as they were and clicked 'Create' in the bottom right.

I opened my background image by clicking 'File' and 'Open' in the top menu. When my file opened, I pressed 'Ctrl + A' on my keyboard to select the image and used 'Ctrl + C' to copy the image. I then went back to my original file and pressed 'Ctrl + V' on my keyboard to paste the copied image onto a new layer. I did not have to resize the image, since I made it on A3 size. I went through the same process with the logo, but I did adjust the size by simply selecting the layer and using the 'Move' tool to drag the corners outward. I then made a border around the logo using 'Edit' in the top menu and choosing 'Stroke', I chose a 5px border with a lighter colour than the background. I could not find a font for the title that fit the project very well, so I used DaFont to find a free to use font.

The title has a font size of 77pt and the subtitle has a font size of 36pt in the font Baskerville Old Face, I changed these in the menu at the top while the 'Text' tool is selected. I changed the opacity of the layer to 50% in the layer menu to make it look more like a subtitle, to me it did not look good when both titles were white. The template is now done.

In Procreate I added all the designs I made together in one file with a transparent background. I added this file using the same 'Open' and Copy-paste process I explained earlier in this post. I resized the title to 120pt and centered the text using the 'Text' menu at the top. I changed the opacity to 70% to make it easier on the eyes as the white was quite piercing at that size. This will be the front cover for my gallery.

For my concept board I used the 'Baskerville Old Face' font in font size 35pt, the layer opacity is set to 70% to make is easier to read and less straining on the eyes.

I added a photo to my 'Materials and Sustainability' board by copying it from the source and pasting it into my file using the 'Ctrl + C' and 'Ctrl + V' commands on my keyboard. I added a border using the 'Edit' menu in the top menu and choosing 'Stroke' with the image layer selected from the layers menu. I chose a 10px size border. The text is consistent with the previous board in terms of size, font and opacity.

I replaced the background with my design drawings using the 'Open' and keyboard commands process. I then added text with the text tool, using the same font, size and opacity as before. Using the 'Rectangular Marquee' tool I created a box around the text on a new layer and used the 'Fill' function under 'Edit' in the top menu, I filled it with a darker colour on 50% opacity. I then used the 'Stroke' function under 'Edit' to create a 100% opacity border with a 2px size around the box with a lighter colour. I used the 'Line' tool to drag a line between the subject and the text.

For the ideal customer board I used the same font for every paragraph. The font size of the title is set to 55pt, the font size of the subtitles are set to 36pt and the paragraph texts have a font size of 30pt. I underlined the subtitles by clicking the plus icon in the 'Character Styles' menu on the top right in my working area. By double clicking the newly created character style a menu pops up, on the right hand side is an array of tick boxes. I ticked the 'Underline' box to underline the text.

The background of the design boards was a little too plain, I decided to add tree silhouettes to the background so it resembles a copse.
