Initial Ideas Generation

Initially I did not feel very inspired by the themes for this project and how to apply it to product design. I started to look at landscape photos and trying to pick out details. I wrote down possible materials and items that I would personally use often together with what I enjoy making and my own style.

I then used the 'Crazy Eights' exercise to come up with possible designs, every design was made in sixty seconds. I started with weapons and magical items to follow the industrial theme combined with a fantasy or steampunk theme, but those did not feel doable as a final design. Instead I started to make designs for teapots inspired by nature, following the primitivism theme. I liked this idea so I started to design a set, eventually going into a mushroom theme.

Update:

Since I have changed my progression route, the initial concept for my project has shifted as well. My theme will still be primitivism and the concept will be inspired by different types of fungi, however, the functional aspect of the project has changed. Most of my project will now revolve around creating texture and experimenting with form. I have made additional sketched in this post. I have used different types of mushrooms that could form into the shape of a cup and sketched what this would look like. I have tried to incorporate different textures and shapes to make every cup unique while still following the concept.

  1. Good start with some interesting shapes and textures documented here - looking forward to seeing how this develops
