Welcome to Term Two
A new term has started and that means new work to be done. This term I will be doing another product design project with 3D outcomes this time. I am excited to learn new and more advanced skills, specifically ceramics, as I have never done it before and always wanted to try it. I would have liked to try out model making, sculpting, 3D printing and printing as well. These are not related to my current project ideas, so I will not be able to try them out yet.

Over the break I have indulged in a variety of things that inspire me as I needed a refresh after the first term. I went home and visited the theme park 'Efteling', something that I used to do at least once a year, but I had not been in some years. The park is themed around the Grimm fairy tales and other folklore and mythology, which are things that I find inspiring in general. The park takes pride in its preservation of nature, which includes an actual forest and parks with a variety of species of flowers and birds that have made the park their home. It is a protected area, since the birds nest around the lake and in the forest. The surroundings are beautiful and provide a lovely backdrop for all the attractions in combination with iconic and catchy music composed by Ruud Bos. The park started out as a playground in the 1950's and has since grown into one of the most popular theme parks in Europe.

I have also read the King of Scars duology by Leigh Bardugo, making my read of the 'Grishaverse' books complete for now. These books specifically focus on the main characters coming to terms with themselves after a devastating war and during a time of industrial revolution. I personally enjoyed how the classic fantasy setting changed into a steampunk setting, describing the challenges of combining magic with airship bombers, tanks, submarines and automated weapons while a country is still rebuilding after the previous war with very little funding. Bardugo's style of writing, character development and world building have continued to inspire my own stories and characters ever since I discovered the books. She goes into enough detail without rambling and every character feels unique with very defined strength's and weaknesses that hold them back or solve problems. "They are filled with high emotional stakes and transformative life moments – whether that is a first kiss or discovering you are a powerful sorcerer with the potential to save the world." (Cain, 2021).
